Around this time of year, pumpkins seem to be everywhere.
They’re sitting on porches, stacked outside stores and waiting patiently for somebody to turn them into a jack~o’~lantern.
But before there was a pumpkin, there was a seed. 🌱🎃
And some young explorers in Readlyn are getting the chance to discover what happens in between.
On Wednesday, October 7, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Bremer County will visit the Readlyn Community Library for Pumpkin Exploration!, a free program where participants will learn about pumpkins and the life cycle of a pumpkin. The program runs from 3:30~4:30 p.m., and no registration is required.
It might sound like a simple fall subject, but think about it through the eyes of a child.
How does something that begins as a little seed eventually become that big orange pumpkin sitting on the porch?
That’s the kind of question that can turn an ordinary part of autumn into an opportunity to get curious, learn something new and discover just how much is happening in nature all around us.
And there’s something we especially like about seeing that kind of learning happening inside a small~town library.
Books aren’t the only things growing curious minds there. ❤️
