✋ HIGH 5 FOR 5 GOOD THINGS GOIN’ ’ROUND TOWN! ✋
It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means! Time to take a little trip ’round Northeast Iowa and find 5 good things happening in our neck of the woods. ❤️
From handmade quilts and historic barns to pumpkins, a community walk and a pretty remarkable birthday celebration, there’s plenty of GOOD happening this week!
Here’s this week’s High 5! 🙌
1. 🧵 A WHOLE LOTTA LOVE STITCHED INTO ONE DAY ~ STRAWBERRY POINT
More than 300 quilts and handmade items help make Camp Ewalu’s 39th Annual Quilt Auction one colorful Northeast Iowa tradition!
The live event happens Saturday, September 19, with quilt viewing, the Country Store and family activities beginning at 9:00 a.m. A devotional worship service begins at 11:00, followed by a freewill lunch at noon and the live auction at 1:00 p.m.
And if you can’t make it in person, Ewalu is also holding a separate online auction Sept. 14~20.
Camp Ewalu, 37776 Alpha Ave., Strawberry Point
No admission ~ everyone is welcome!
All those stitches add up to something even bigger: support for the ministry and programs at Camp Ewalu.
2. 🎃 FALL FUN IS READY TO ROLL ~ OELWEIN
Pumpkins, animals, corn, games and plenty of opportunities to get a little dirt on your shoes!
Red Rock Farms Fall Fest kicks off its 2026 season this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 19~20, from 10:00 a.m.~5:00 p.m.
Visitors can explore the farm, visit animals, tackle the corn maze, play outdoor games, check out farm equipment, visit the Country Store, pick out pumpkins and enjoy a whole bunch of other fall fun.
Red Rock Farms
20856 30th St., Oelwein
Fall Fest continues Saturdays and Sundays through November 1, so if you can’t make opening weekend, there are more chances ahead.
3. 💜 WALKING TOGETHER FOR SOMETHING THAT MATTERS ~ DECORAH
Sometimes one of the best things a community can do is simply show up for one another.
The Decorah Community Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place Saturday, September 19, at Pulpit Rock Brewing Company.
Registration and networking with vendors begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Participants can then choose either a 1~mile or 2~mile walk.
Members of Luther College’s Alpha Beta Psi chapter will also be there welcoming participants and families.
207 College Drive, Decorah
A morning of steps, support and community ~ all working toward a future with more memories and fewer families touched by Alzheimer’s.
4. 🚜 OPEN THE BARN DOORS ~ IT’S TOUR WEEKEND!
There’s just something about an old Iowa barn.
The boards. The beams. The stories. And all those years of farm life tucked underneath one roof.
The Iowa Barn Foundation All-State Barn Tour returns Saturday and Sunday, September 19~20, giving folks a chance to explore historic barns across Iowa, including stops here in Northeast Iowa.
Barns participating in the tour are open from 9:00 a.m.~5:00 p.m. both days, and the self-guided tour is FREE and open to the public.
It’s a pretty special opportunity to wander through a piece of Iowa agricultural history and meet some of the people helping preserve it for the next generation.
5. ⛪ NOW THAT’S A BIRTHDAY ~ 180 YEARS IN WATERLOO!
Before Waterloo was even incorporated ~ and before Iowa officially became a state ~ a small group of people were already gathering together in faith.
This Sunday, September 20, Waterloo First United Methodist Church will celebrate an incredible 180 years of faith, service and community.
The congregation dates back to 1846, when early meetings were held in the cabin of Charles and America Mullan.
A special anniversary worship service begins at 9:30 a.m., and the community is invited to join the celebration.
614 Randolph St., Waterloo
180 years. That’s generations of weddings, funerals, baptisms, prayers, potlucks, helping hands and people walking through those doors.
Now THAT deserves a High 5. ❤️🙌
✋ And there you have it ~ this week’s High 5 for 5 Good Things Goin’ ’Round Town!
Five reminders that there are still plenty of good things happening all around us ~sometimes we just have to look around town to find them. ❤️
