Burgers, Gravy & Good Ole Hometown Cookin’ at S & D Cafe!

WAUKON, IOWA ~ There’s just something about a good old-fashioned hometown cafe that makes a meal taste even better!

You know the kind of place I’m talking about. Where folks stop in for a hearty breakfast, a satisfying lunch, a hot cup of coffee, and maybe a little friendly conversation along the way.

The kind of place where everybody seems to know everybody, and if they don’t, well… they might before they leave! LOLOLOL!

That’s the hometown charm of S & D Cafe, located at 13 West Main Street in downtown Waukon, Iowa.

And this time, I brought my brother along to give a couple of their lunch favorites a try!

Ohhh… Now THAT’S Some Good Eatin’! ❤️

Now, when I go out for a good old~fashioned hamburger and fries, I’m not looking for anything fancy. I just want a burger that’s cooked right, tastes good, and leaves me thinking I’d happily order it again!

And S & D Cafe delivered!

My hamburger was wonderfully juicy, tucked inside a bun toasted to perfection. You know how a good toasted bun adds just that little something extra to a burger? Well, this one had it!

And those crinkle-cut fries?

Ohhh, they were served hot, with that wonderful crispness on the outside and a soft, tender inside.

Just the way I like ’em!

Now, my brother went a different direction and ordered the hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy.

The beef was tender, the mashed potatoes were wonderfully creamy, and there was plenty of gravy covering it all.

And when I say PLENTY of gravy, I mean enough that I could even borrow a little for MY French fries!

Hey, what’s a brother’s plate for if you can’t help yourself to a little extra gravy? LOLOLOL! 🤠❤️

Between my juicy burger, those hot and crispy fries, and my brother’s tender hot beef with creamy mashed potatoes, we had ourselves a mighty satisfying hometown lunch.

Sometimes, good food doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to be cooked right, served hot, and leave you smiling when the plate is empty!

Where the Hometown Welcome Is Part of the Meal

But here’s something else I appreciated about S & D Cafe.

The friendly atmosphere!

Our waitress was welcoming and friendly, adding that little extra touch that makes a simple lunch out feel more like a pleasant visit than just another meal.

And there’s something special about a hometown cafe where everybody seems to know everybody.

You know the kind of place ~ where neighbors gather around tables, familiar faces come and go, and there’s that comfortable small-town feeling that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile.

No fancy production. No need to impress anybody.

Just good old-fashioned food, a friendly waitress, and a comfortable place to enjoy lunch with somebody you love.

Because sometimes, what makes a restaurant memorable isn’t just what’s on your plate ~ it’s how you feel while you’re sitting at the table. ❤️

Breakfast, Lunch & Maybe a Little Pie!

If you’re an early riser, S & D Cafe has plenty of familiar breakfast favorites to choose from.

Eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, and other morning favorites are among the choices.

And when lunchtime rolls around, there’s a variety of good old-fashioned cafe fare, including hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pork tenderloin sandwiches, hot beef sandwiches, soups, salads, and more.

But there’s something else that caught my attention…

Homemade PIE!

Now, my brother and I didn’t try the pie on this particular visit.

But I’m thinking that might be a pretty good excuse for another trip, don’t you?

After all, somebody has to do the important work of investigating homemade pie!

And I suppose I could volunteer for that difficult assignment. LOLOLOL! ❤️

Good Food ~ Good Company ~ Good Ole Hometown Charm

One thing I enjoy about visiting local cafes is that every one has its own personality.

And S & D Cafe brings together some of the things that make small-town dining so enjoyable.

A juicy hamburger on a perfectly toasted bun.

Hot, crispy fries.

Tender beef, creamy mashed potatoes, and enough gravy to make a French fry mighty happy!

And a friendly hometown atmosphere where a simple meal becomes a little something more.

Whether you’re a Waukon local looking for a familiar favorite or someone traveling through northeast Iowa hoping to find a good hometown meal, S & D Cafe is worth keeping in mind.

And if you’re having trouble deciding what to order, well…

I can tell you that the hamburger and fries certainly hit the spot for me, and my brother’s hot beef and gravy made a mighty good showing, too!

Sometimes, the best meals aren’t fancy. They’re simply good food shared in good company. ❤️
