Tag… You’re It! ~ Celebrating Everyday Heroes
WAUKON, IOWA ~ Some of the greatest gifts given to a community never come wrapped in pretty paper or tied with a bow.
Sometimes, they come in the form of a helping hand, a few hours of someone’s time, or a caring heart willing to make somebody else’s day a little brighter.
And on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, those gifts were worth celebrating as Northeast Iowa RSVP marked 25 years of volunteer service with a special gathering at White Haus Social in Waukon.
Word ’Round Town was there to capture a little of the occasion, where volunteers and guests gathered to visit, share a meal, and recognize the dedication of those who give so generously of their time.
Twenty~Five Years ~ Countless Acts of Kindness
During the gathering, remarks highlighted the hard work and dedication of volunteers, along with grants helping support the program’s continued service.
And there’s quite a story behind those helping hands!
Northeast Iowa RSVP connects more than 630 volunteers with over 80 partner organizations throughout the region.
During the 2025~26 reporting period alone, volunteers contributed more than 44,000 hours of service.
Just imagine what 44,000 hours of kindness can mean to a community!
Those hours help put food on tables, provide assistance with tax preparation, connect generations through pen-pal programs, and support neighbors in countless meaningful ways.
Sometimes…The Greatest Gift Is Simply Showing Up
Volunteering doesn’t always mean doing something extraordinary.
Sometimes, it means being there when somebody needs a helping hand.
Sometimes, it’s a friendly conversation, a thoughtful gesture, or a few hours that make another person’s day a little easier.
And when those little moments of kindness are multiplied across 25 years, they become something truly special.
They become part of the heart of Northeast Iowa.
A Celebration Worth Sharing
Waukon’s gathering was one of three regional celebrations recognizing Northeast Iowa RSVP’s anniversary, with additional events held in Cresco and Decorah.
The Waukon occasion brought people together for fellowship, food, conversation, and appreciation for the work volunteers continue to do.
And perhaps that’s one of the loveliest things about volunteering.
A person may give just a little of their time, never realizing how much that little bit might mean to someone else.
Twenty~five years is a milestone worth celebrating. But the countless acts of kindness behind those years are the real reason to celebrate.
To the volunteers, organizers, community partners, and supporters who help make it all possible…
HATS OFF to your helping hands and caring hearts! ❤️
Because sometimes, the greatest difference we make in this world begins with the simplest decision of all…
To care enough to help.
