There’s a bright pink character hiding somewhere around Decorah ~ and finding him might just turn an ordinary afternoon into a little adventure.
His name is Freddy the Flamingo, and Decorah Parks and Recreation has brought him out for a family~friendly game of hide~and~seek in the city’s parks.
Freddy doesn’t stay put, either.
He’s hiding in different Decorah parks, waiting for families, friends and young explorers to discover where he’s landed. Parks & Recreation launched the activity as school got underway, offering kids a reason to head outdoors after a day in the classroom and spend some time exploring their community.
Find him and the next step is easy: snap a picture with Freddy. 📸🦩
Participants can post their Freddy photo to the Parks & Recreation Facebook Event page. Each submitted photo counts as an entry into a monthly prize drawing, with one name drawn at the end of each month.
There is just one important rule:
Don’t take Freddy with you! 😂
Leave the sneaky flamingo right where you found him so the next family has a chance to experience that “There he is!” moment too.
And with Decorah Parks & Recreation overseeing 23 parks and recreational areas across nearly 664 acres, Freddy has plenty of places to hide.
So the next time the kids say there’s nothing to do after school, you might have your answer.
Put on your walking shoes, pick a Decorah park and start looking for a flash of pink.
Ready, Freddy?
Here we come! 🦩🔎❤️
