Waukon’s Fall Harvest Dinner Is Serving Up More Than a Delicious Meal!
WAUKON, IOWA ~
Now, there’s something about a good old~fashioned church dinner that just feels like home.
Maybe it’s the smell of ham.
Maybe it’s those cheesy potatoes that somehow taste even better when somebody else makes them.
Or maybe it’s knowing that, somewhere between passing the plates and sharing a smile, a little something wonderful is happening.
Neighbors are coming together for something bigger than supper.
And this Sunday, November 1, that’s exactly what’s on the menu at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon.
🥔 Oh, Those Cheesy Potatoes!
Now, before we get to the heartwarming part, let’s talk about the food.
Because goodness gracious, this sounds like a meal worth getting out of the house for!
The Fall Harvest Dinner will feature Edgewood Locker’s glazed sliced ham, along with cheesy potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, and a dinner roll.
And for dessert?
A choice of apple crisp or a pumpkin bar.
That’s the kind of menu that makes you think of Sunday dinners, family gatherings, and somebody hollering from the kitchen that it’s time to eat!
Guests can enjoy their meals at the church or take them home.
So whether you’d like to sit down for a little fellowship or carry dinner back to your own table, there’s an option for both.
❤️ But Here’s the Part That Makes This Dinner Extra Special
This isn’t simply a fundraiser to keep the church kitchen busy.
Proceeds will benefit Zion UCC’s Sunday School and Confirmation Class as they adopt families through the Relief Office Christmas Giving Tree.
And that gives this Sunday meal a whole different meaning.
While folks are enjoying a plate of ham and potatoes, they’re also helping youngsters take part in something that reaches beyond themselves.
The opportunity to give.
To think about another family.
To discover that Christmas isn’t only about the gifts we hope to receive, but also the kindness we choose to share.
That’s a mighty valuable lesson to carry into life.
🎄 From a Harvest Table to a Christmas Tree
There’s something especially touching about the timing.
Here we are, just turning the calendar to November.
The autumn leaves are falling.
The holidays are beginning to peek around the corner.
And already, people are thinking about how to make Christmas a little brighter for somebody else.
A harvest dinner may seem like a simple thing.
But consider what can grow from it.
A meal purchased.
A fundraiser supported.
Young people given an opportunity to serve.
And families remembered during a season when a little extra kindness can mean so much.
Sometimes the goodness we put into the world begins with something as ordinary as sharing a meal.
🍂 A Little Hometown Fellowship Goes a Long Way
Church dinners have long been part of small-town life.
They’re places where people gather around familiar foods, visit with neighbors, and support causes that matter close to home.
And you don’t have to know everybody in the room to appreciate what makes them special.
Sometimes all it takes is a friendly greeting.
A warm plate.
And the knowledge that your presence is helping make something good happen.
Because a community isn’t built only through big announcements and grand gestures.
Sometimes it’s built one plate, one conversation, and one act of generosity at a time.

❤️ The Best Part of a Good Meal Isn’t Always What’s on the Plate
There’s something beautiful about the way one act of kindness can lead to another.
Someone prepares a meal.
Someone comes to enjoy it.
Young people get an opportunity to help others.
And somewhere down the road, a family may experience a little more joy at Christmastime because people chose to care.
That’s the kind of harvest worth celebrating.
Not just the food gathered from the fields.
But the goodness gathered from the hearts of neighbors.
So if you’re looking for a Sunday dinner that comes with a little extra helping of purpose, Zion United Church of Christ has a place at the table.
Because sometimes the sweetest thing we serve isn’t dessert…
It’s kindness. ❤️
