✋ HIGH 5 FOR 5 GOOD THINGS GOIN’ ’ROUND TOWN! ❤️

October 19~25, 2026

Five Good Things Coming Our Way Across Northeast Iowa!

Well, would ya look at what’s goin’ ’round town this week! ❤️

From warm bowls of homemade soup and a little autumn creativity to Halloween costumes, hearts coming together for a good cause, and a neighborhood celebrating 50 years of history, there’s plenty worth smiling about in our corner of Northeast Iowa!

Sometimes the best things happening around us aren’t the biggest or the loudest. They’re the little opportunities to gather, lend a hand, share a laugh, and make somebody else’s day a little brighter.

So, here we go! Five good things worth knowing about this coming week!

✋ HIGH 5 #1 ~ A Little Soup, A Lot of Heart! 🍲

Waukon | Wednesday, October 21

There’s something about a warm bowl of soup on a chilly October evening that just feels like home. And when that supper helps support local students, it’s even sweeter!

St. Patrick’s Parents’ Group is hosting a Soup Supper at St. Patrick Church, located at 109 2nd Street SW in Waukon.

Dine-in will be available from 4:30~6:30 p.m., with carryout offered from 4~6:30 p.m.

The menu includes chili, chicken noodle, chicken enchilada, and cheeseburger soups, along with hot dogs, desserts, and milk.

It’s a freewill donation supper, with proceeds supporting St. Patrick’s School.

A good meal, good neighbors, and a good cause. Now that’s something worth gathering around!

✋ HIGH 5 #2 ~ A Little Creativity Goes a Long Way! 🎨

Decorah | Tuesday, October 20

Who says you have to be an artist to enjoy making something beautiful?

Decorah Public Library and ArtHaus are bringing folks together for Coffee & Creativity, from 10~11:30 a.m. in the library’s second~floor mezzanine.

This week’s activity invites participants to create their own autumn-inspired color palettes, with ArtHaus instructors helping guide the experience.

The program is free, materials are provided, and no previous artistic experience is needed.

Sometimes the nicest part of creating something isn’t what you take home. It’s the conversation, laughter, and new connections you make along the way!

✋ HIGH 5 #3 ~ Little Ghosts, Big Smiles! 🎃

McGregor | Saturday, October 24

Get those costumes ready, because McGregor is preparing for a morning of Halloween fun!

The annual Halloween Parade & Festival takes place from 10 a.m.~noon.

The parade begins at 10 a.m., traveling down Main Street, with festivities continuing in the Triangle Park area afterward.

Families can look forward to a children’s costume contest, performances, carnival games, crafts, a sensory house, and more.

It’s one of those hometown mornings where the little ones get to show off their costumes, neighbors get to visit, and a whole lot of memories are waiting to be made.

And who knows? You might just see a tiny ghost, a miniature superhero, or a princess waving at you from Main Street!

✋ HIGH 5 #4 ~ Turning Pink Into Hope! 💗

Decorah | Friday, October 23

Sometimes a gathering becomes something much bigger than an evening out.

It becomes a reminder that people care.

Luther College’s Tau Delta Gamma is hosting its annual Pink Night at Impact Coffee, from 7~9 p.m., raising money for the Winneshiek County Celebration of Life and bringing awareness to breast cancer during October.

The evening will feature live music, a silent auction, pink drinks, and opportunities to contribute through freewill donations.

Everyone is welcome.

Behind every ribbon is a story. Behind every story are people who need encouragement, support, and hope.

And sometimes, showing up is a beautiful way to remind someone they’re not standing alone.

✋ HIGH 5 #5 ~ Fifty Years of Stories Worth Remembering! 🏡

Decorah | Sunday, October 25

If old houses could talk, just imagine the stories they’d tell!

Decorah’s Broadway~Phelps Park National Historic District is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an afternoon honoring the history, architecture, and people who helped shape this treasured neighborhood.

The celebration takes place from 1~4 p.m., beginning at First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 604 W. Broadway, with entrance from Mill Street.

Visitors can enjoy historical walking tours, church tours, neighborhood porch socials, refreshments, and opportunities to discover the stories behind some of Decorah’s historic homes and buildings.

The guided Spirits of Broadway walking tours are scheduled to depart at 1:45, 2, and 2:15 p.m. Sign~up information will be available at the fellowship hall.

The event is sponsored by the Decorah Historic Preservation Commission, and all activities are free and open to the public.

What a lovely opportunity to appreciate the places that have stood through generations of changing seasons, growing families, and hometown memories.

Because sometimes preserving yesterday is one of the nicest gifts we can give tomorrow.

❤️ AND THAT’S OUR HIGH 5!

Five different happenings. Five opportunities to gather, give, learn, celebrate, and make a few memories along the way.

Whether it’s sharing a bowl of soup, creating something with your own two hands, watching children parade through town in their Halloween costumes, supporting someone facing a difficult journey, or discovering a piece of local history, there’s goodness waiting to be found.

And here’s a little something worth remembering:

Sometimes the good news isn’t just what’s happening around town. It’s the good we become part of when we show up.

So get out there if you can. Say hello to somebody. Support a neighbor. Share a smile. And don’t underestimate how much one little act of kindness might mean to someone else.

Here’s to another week of finding the good, sharing the good, and keeping it goin’ ’round town!
