When Sunflowers Lean In

It looked like they were kissing.

Two sunflowers, standing side by side beneath an open summer sky, had turned so closely toward one another that their golden faces nearly touched.

Maybe it was the way they had grown.

Maybe it was the angle of the light.

Maybe it was nothing more than stems bending where the wind and sun had led them.

But standing there looking at them, it felt like something softer.

Something worth noticing.

In a field full of blooms, each one reaching for light in its own way, these two seemed to have found one another.

And instead of stretching only toward the sky, they leaned in.

There was something beautiful about that.

The world gives us so many reasons to keep our heads down, keep moving, keep protecting our own little piece of ground.

But every now and then, nature quietly shows us another way.

Turn toward the light.

And while you are there, notice who is standing beside you.

Lean toward kindness.

Lean toward gentleness.

Lean toward the people who make the hard days a little softer.

Sometimes love does not arrive with grand words or sweeping gestures.

Sometimes it is simply presence.

A shoulder nearby.

A hand that stays.

A listening ear.

A quiet prayer.

A heart willing to turn toward another instead of away.

Perhaps that is what made those sunflowers so lovely to me.

They did not appear to be competing for the sunlight.

They simply seemed to share the moment.

Two bright faces.

One golden afternoon.

And enough beauty between them to make somebody stop and smile.

I do not know what those sunflowers were really doing.

But I know what they reminded me of.

That we were never meant to spend all our days facing the world alone.

That there is strength in turning toward one another.

That tenderness still matters.

And that sometimes the most beautiful thing we can do is simply lean a little closer.

So if you happen upon two sunflowers facing one another someday, maybe stop for a moment.

Let them make you smile.

Let them remind you of someone you love.

And perhaps, before you move along, whisper a little thank~you to God for all the quiet ways He leaves reminders of love growing right in front of us.
