Miss Sadie Mae Swine’s Slop’in Seconds ~ Hog-Wild Pizza Bread Pile-Up

Where leftovers get a second chance ~ and everybody wants seconds.

Well now, don’t go tossin’ those few lonely slices of bread just because they’re gettin’ a little stiff around the edges.

Miss Sadie Mae says stale bread ain’t old.

It’s just waitin’ on cheese.

Today we’re rootin’ around for leftover bread, a little spaghetti sauce, bits of cooked meat, vegetables, and whatever cheese is still hangin’ around the refrigerator.

Slop it all together and we’ve got ourselves a pan of warm, cheesy pizza bread pile~up that works for supper, lunch, or one of those evenings when everybody asks, “What are we eatin’?” and you were hopin’ nobody would.

What You’ll Slop Together

  • 6 to 8 slices leftover bread, dinner rolls, hamburger buns, garlic bread, or French bread
  • 1½ cups pizza or spaghetti sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella, cheddar, or whatever cheese needs usin’
  • 1 to 1½ cups cooked meat such as hamburger, sausage, chicken, ham, or pepperoni
  • 1 cup leftover vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, peppers, corn, broccoli, or spinach
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan, optional
  • A little butter or cooking spray for the baking dish

Now Slop It All Together!

Heat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease an 8~by~8~inch or similar baking dish.

Tear or cut the bread into chunky pieces and scatter about half across the bottom of the dish.

Spoon half the sauce over the bread.

Now slop in your cooked meat, vegetables, and about half the cheese.

Add the rest of the bread pieces, spoon the remaining sauce across the top, and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and garlic powder.

Finish it off with the remaining cheese and Parmesan if you have some.

Bake uncovered for about 20 to 25 minutes, until everything is hot, the cheese is melted, and those little bread edges pokin’ up around the top get nice and toasty.

Let it rest for about 5 minutes before scoopin’ it out.

Then stand back.

Somebody’s gonna want seconds.

Miss Sadie Mae’s Slop-Smart Suggestions

No pizza sauce? Spaghetti sauce works just fine. Even a little tomato sauce mixed with Italian seasoning will get the job done.

Got leftover meatballs? Chop ’em up and slop ’em in.

Have three kinds of cheese but not enough of any one kind? Perfect. Miss Sadie Mae does not discriminate against cheese.

Got only two hamburger buns, one dinner roll, and a heel of sandwich bread?

Congratulations. You have a recipe.

Want a crispier top? Leave a few bread pieces sticking up above the sauce and give them a light brush of butter before baking.

Feeding a crowd? Double the recipe and use a 9~by~13~inch pan.
