🍀 Little Hands, Big Hearts… and a Whole Lot of 4~H Fun! ❤️

Costumes, Fall Activities, and a Chance to Help Neighbors Come Together in Waukon!

WAUKON, IOWA ~

Who says Halloween fun has to end when October does?

Apparently, nobody told the youngsters in Allamakee County 4~H!

Because on Saturday, November 7, they’re getting ready for an afternoon of costumes, laughter, fall activities, and a little something that might just warm your heart more than a cup of hot apple cider.

They’re being encouraged to bring canned food to help neighbors through The Allamakee County Food Shelf! ❤️

And isn’t that a wonderful way to mix a little fun with a little kindness?

🎃 Hold On to Those Halloween Costumes!

The annual Allamakee County 4~H Junior Halloween Party & Fall Fun Day will take place at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon.

The afternoon is planned especially for enrolled 4~H members in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades.

And here’s the fun part!

Those Halloween costumes don’t have to disappear into the closet just yet.

Youngsters are encouraged to wear them again for an afternoon that includes a costume contest, fall activities, and opportunities to make new friends.

Now, I don’t know about you, but getting one more chance to wear a favorite costume sounds like a pretty good deal!

Especially when there’s a little friendly competition involved.

🍀 Friends Make the Fun Even Better!

One of the nicest parts of the gathering is that 4~H members are encouraged to invite a friend who isn’t enrolled in 4~H.

That’s a lovely way to introduce another youngster to the friendships and experiences that 4~H can offer.

Because sometimes a new adventure begins with something as simple as somebody saying…

“Hey! Wanna come along?”

And before you know it, a child who might have been hesitant to try something new is laughing, participating, and making memories.

Those little invitations can mean more than we realize.

❤️ A Can of Food… and a Lesson That Lasts

Now, here’s the part of this gathering that especially caught our attention.

Admission is free, but youngsters are encouraged to bring canned-food donations for The Allamakee County Food Shelf.

It’s a simple request.

Nothing fancy.

Nothing complicated.

Just an opportunity to think about somebody else while enjoying an afternoon of fun.

And that’s one of the beautiful things about teaching kindness while children are young.

They begin to discover that helping doesn’t always require a grand gesture.

Sometimes it begins with one can of food.

One thoughtful decision.

One moment of recognizing that another family might appreciate a helping hand.

And since the canned~food donation is encouraged rather than required, the opportunity to participate isn’t dependent upon bringing something.

🌱 Growing More Than Blue Ribbons

Many people think of 4~H and immediately picture county fairs, livestock, ribbons, and projects.

And those are certainly familiar parts of the experience.

But 4~H also helps young people build confidence, friendships, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility toward their communities.

An afternoon like Fall Fun Day brings several of those lessons together.

Youngsters get to have fun.

They get to meet people.

They get to try activities.

And they’re invited to consider how they can make a difference for somebody else.

That’s the kind of learning that can stay with a child long after the costumes have been put away.
