There are plenty of good things happening around Northeast Iowa this week. Here are five worth a HIGH FIVE! ✋❤️

1. Fort Atkinson is turning back the clock, for the 50th time!

The 50th Annual Fort Atkinson Rendezvous takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 26~27, at Fort Atkinson State Preserve.

The historic fort will come alive with living~history demonstrations, cannon drills, traditional contests, music, children’s 1840s games and plenty of opportunities to experience a little of what life was like on the frontier.

The fort is open Saturday from 9:30 a.m.~4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.~3:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free, and a free shuttle will be available. The City of Fort Atkinson confirms that 2026 marks the event’s 50th Rendezvous.

2. Decorah is taking the arts to the street!

Live on Winnebago returns Saturday, September 26, from noon~6 p.m.

This free music and arts celebration in the heart of Decorah showcases local and regional artists and musicians and gives the community an afternoon to gather, listen, create and enjoy downtown Decorah.

3. Families are going fishing!

A Girl Scout Family Fishing Day is happening Saturday, September 26, from 9~11 a.m. at the Decorah Fish Hatchery.

And you don’t have to already be a Girl Scout family, the event is open to all families.

The morning includes trout~fishing fun, hands~on learning, an aquatic insect and water~quality demonstration and a behind-the-scenes look at the hatchery.

4. How about a FREE movie under the stars?

Decorah Parks & Recreation is hosting Movie in the Park Friday, September 25, at Will Baker Park.

The featured movie is The Great Outdoors, beginning at dusk, approximately 7 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Even better? Popcorn and s’mores will be available!

5. One person’s forgotten gear could become somebody else’s next adventure!

The Decorah Gear Exchange returns for its fifth year September 26~27.

It’s an opportunity for outdoor gear that isn’t being used anymore to find a new home instead of sitting forgotten in a closet or garage~ and for somebody else to find equipment for their next adventure. Decorah Parks & Recreation currently confirms the September 26~27 dates.

Five different ways to get out, gather together, learn something, make a memory or simply enjoy where we live.

That’s worth a HIGH FIVE! ✋❤️
