Usually when you walk into a gym, you’re thinking about building strength.
This week, several Cedar Valley fitness organizations are asking people to help build something else, too:
A stronger community.
The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is holding its “Build Strength. Feed Hope” Protein Drive through Wednesday, September 30, collecting protein~rich foods to help support its work fighting hunger across Northeast Iowa.
And the idea is pretty simple.
While you’re heading out for a workout, bring along something for somebody else’s table.
The Food Bank is asking for protein donations such as peanut butter and canned meats. Its regular list of needed foods specifically includes canned meats such as tuna, chicken and salmon.
Donations for this special drive can be dropped off at:
Cedar Valley SportsPlex
New Dawn Yoga
Orangetheory
FIT Courts ~Viking Road
Ninja U
It might be one jar of peanut butter.
A few cans of tuna or chicken.
Something small enough to tuck into a grocery cart without much thought.
But when people throughout a community begin doing those little things, they can add up.
And the Northeast Iowa Food Bank’s reach goes well beyond Waterloo. The organization serves 16 counties across Northeast Iowa through its programs and network of partner organizations.
Maybe that’s what makes the name of this particular drive so fitting.
Strength isn’t always measured by how much we can lift.
Sometimes it’s measured by how willing we are to help carry the load for somebody else. ❤️
The Build Strength. Feed Hope Protein Drive continues through September 30.
Grab a jar.
Grab a can.
And while you’re building your own strength, help put a little strength on somebody else’s table.
That’s one workout for the heart that doesn’t require a gym membership. 💪🥫❤️
