Mr. Mutt Ruff Investigates Puppy Pilates 🐾
Critter Corner ~ Waterloo, Iowa
Well, folks…
Mr. Mutt Ruff here.
Boy, have I got a story to share with you!
I was minding my own business ~ sniffin’ around for a good Critter Corner story, checking a few bushes, investigating some highly suspicious squirrels…
You know.
Journalism.
When word reached the doghouse that something unusual is happening over in Waterloo.
Apparently, the humans have invented something called…
PUPPY PILATES.
I beg your pardon?
Naturally, as Word ’Round Town’s Critter Corner Correspondent, I felt it was my professional responsibility to investigate.
And I have questions.
Lots of questions.
First…
We’ve been doing Downward Dog for YEARS.
Nobody gave us a class.
Nobody gave us a yoga mat.
And nobody applauded.
But suddenly humans add a few puppies and everybody wants to sign up?!
RUFF. 🐾
🐶 Yep. Puppy Pilates Is Really Happening.
I checked.
Twice.
Even gave it the official sniff test.
On Saturday, September 26, Cedar Bend Humane Society has Puppy Pilates scheduled at its Outreach & Education Center in Waterloo.
It’s listed for 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Now, Cedar Bend hasn’t put all the participation details on its public event calendar yet, so I’m not going to go barking information around the neighborhood that I can’t verify.
I have journalistic standards, you know. ❤️
🐾 Turns Out There’s a Bigger Story Behind Those Little Paws
While investigating this Puppy Pilates business, I discovered something pretty neat.
Cedar Bend Humane Society has opened a whole Outreach & Education Center just down the road from its main shelter.
And this isn’t simply another place to keep animals.
It’s a place designed to bring animals and people together.
Cedar Bend says proceeds from programs held at the center help support the care, shelter and medical needs of the animals they serve.
Now THAT got my tail waggin’. ❤️
Because behind all the cute puppies and funny class names are real animals that need food, medical care, shelter and eventually…
somebody to take them home.
🐕 And Wait Until You Hear What’s Outside…
My investigation continued.
For purely professional reasons, of course.
Absolutely nothing to do with the words DOG PARK.
The Outreach & Education Center has a public dog park with indoor AND outdoor play areas.
There’s enrichment equipment.
Shaded areas.
And…
A SPLASH PAD.
Hold the leash.
You mean to tell me there’s a place where a fellow can run around, splash in water and nobody yells:
“MR. MUTT RUFF! GET OUT OF THAT PUDDLE!”
WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS SOONER?!
This investigation has become personal. 😂🐾
🐱 Unfortunately, I Also Discovered Something Concerning
Apparently, Cedar Bend has ideas for other activities at the center, too.
Including…
Cat Yoga.
Cats.
Doing yoga.
Hmmph.
I’ve reviewed the situation carefully and determined that additional investigation will be necessary.
Very additional.
Possibly from behind a fence.
Those things have claws.
I’m a reporter, folks.
I’m not reckless.
❤️ But Here’s What This Old Mutt Really Likes About It
All joking aside…
there’s something awfully nice happening here.
Animal shelters spend every day caring for creatures who can’t exactly walk up to somebody and say:
“Hey… I could really use a little help.”
So people have to speak for them.
Feed them.
Treat them when they’re sick.
Give them somewhere safe to sleep.
Help them trust again.
And hopefully find them somebody who looks into their little face and says:
“You’re coming home with me.”
Cedar Bend is finding some pretty creative ways to get people through the door and involved with that mission.
Sometimes that’s a vaccination clinic.
Sometimes it’s education.
Sometimes it’s a trip to the dog park.
And apparently…
sometimes it’s trying to hold a Pilates position while a puppy decides your shoelace is the most fascinating object it has ever encountered.
😂🐶❤️
🐾 Mr. Mutt Ruff’s Official Report
After careful investigation, extensive sniffing and absolutely no unauthorized treats that anyone can prove…
I have reached my conclusion:
Puppy Pilates is approved.
Puppies: Approved.
Helping shelter animals: Definitely approved.
Splash pad: EXTREMELY approved.
Cat Yoga:
…
Investigation pending.
🐾
And as for Pilates?
I’ll stick with what I know.
Sit. Stay. Stretch. Roll over.
Then somebody gives you a treat.
Honestly, humans…
you’re making this WAY harder than it needs to be.
Until next time, keep your tails waggin’, your hearts open…
and if anybody needs me, I’ll be conducting a very important follow-up investigation at that splash pad.
