There’s something pretty remarkable happening in Decorah Wednesday afternoon ~ and the travelers involved weigh less than a paper clip.
Decorah Parks & Recreation is inviting families, nature lovers and curious little scientists to the Decorah Butterfly Garden Wednesday, September 2 at 4:30 p.m. for a free Monarch Butterfly Tagging event.
Participants will learn about the monarch butterfly’s life cycle and the incredible fall migration that carries these delicate travelers south before helping tag monarchs as part of citizen ~ science efforts.
Those tiny tags help researchers learn more about where monarchs travel and how successfully they make their remarkable migration.
And maybe that’s the beautiful part of it.
Something so small can carry information hundreds ~ even thousands ~ of miles.
Something delicate can make an enormous journey.
And sometimes helping science looks a whole lot like standing in a butterfly garden on a September afternoon, holding a little bit of wonder in your hands.
The event is free, open to all ages, and no registration is required.
